Jaundice...

That's what poor Anna's foot has looked like pretty much every day since we left the hospital...bless her heart, she's had 10 heel sticks since birth. She has had a big battle with jaundice that we hope she's won now. Because I think this is so cool, I want to share the specifics of what's happened the past few days...it's kind of a little wordy...sorry!

When we left the hospital her level was 12.5 and the pediatrician thought that it would peak out in the next day or two and then go down. Well, 5 days and 4 heel sticks later her number was at 21 and they decided to bring in home health for phototherapy. Unfortunately our insurance does not cover any home health. Agg! They told us to come in the next morning (Friday) for another blood test and to decide what to do. Hospital admittance was pretty much the next step. Of course at this point we were getting worried about Anna and what needed to be done so I prayed specifically for God to perform a miracle and let Anna's number be lower the next morning without any additional treatment. So the next day at the pediatrician's office, the first bloodtest came back "out of range" meaning her number was so high that the machine couldn't read it. Dr. Trumbull came in to let me know that we had to re-run the test and he completed the order for Anna and me to be admitted into Baptist South for 2-3 days of light therapy. I was an emotional mess at that point; worried about Anna and worried about being away from Ella for additional time. As he was leaving to call the hospital about us coming straight there, he said "unless we get a miraculous result from the second bloodtest." Well, 5 minutes later he came back in the room and said "To God be the glory, her number is 19.8!" Her number had dropped all by itself from 21 the day before! What a fantastic answer to prayer! God is just so amazing...I am constantly in awe of what He can do! So we avoided the hospital and when we went back on Saturday her number was 19.7 and then 17.4 on Monday. Yay! Her color is looking better everyday and we seem to be over the worst of it now. Thank God!!
Here's another shot of Anna "sunbathing" by the window:

Our first grandchild, Austin, had to wear a light :) and looked just like one of those glow worms Jenny had growing up; he also stayed in sunlight and this went on for almost a month ~ he's none the worse for wear now! Oh, and he had a small hole in his heart that healed within the first six months. Never underestimate the power of our King :)

What an awesome story. God is certainly good!! Claire had a very similar battle with jaundice. She had to be on the "bili blanket" (home phototherapy) for 7 days! I am thankful that little Anna is getting better. Hope y'all are doing well and getting used to a new normal (...life with 2 small kids)! :)

Audrey had to deal with that too. So glad for your miracle! Glad to hear she is doing better.
